DHF has launched an accredited learning programme designed to give building-hardware professionals recognised knowledge, evidence of achievement and a structured route for career development.

DHF Core Competencies: Understanding Building Hardware is delivered online through the DHF Training Academy. Successful learners gain a DHF Level 2 Certificate alongside an Ofqual-branded certificate from ABBE—the Awarding Body for the Built Environment.

Designed around real industry roles

The programme is suitable for product managers, customer-service teams, trade-counter professionals and people entering the sector. It can also support employee induction and continuing professional development.

Every learner completes a mandatory core module comprising six guided learning units and multiple-choice assessments. They can then select from 12 product modules, adding further subjects as their role develops.

“This programme represents a step change for the building hardware sector.”

Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens, DHF Chief Executive

Clear evidence of competence

Certificates list every completed product module, giving employers a clear record of each learner’s knowledge and achievement. Downloadable study guides support note-taking and reinforce key concepts throughout the course.

The qualification provides evidence of the knowledge element within the Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours framework. It reflects current and emerging expectations across manufacturing, distribution, technical support and sales.

Flexible by design

Learn at your own pace. Manage competence across the workforce.

The Academy’s management portal allows training and HR teams to monitor engagement, progress and achievement.

Supporting a stronger supply chain

DHF says the programme is one of its most significant investments in building-hardware competence. It was shaped with input from members, working groups, technical experts and industry partners.

The programme is initially available to DHF members, with broader industry access planned as part of the next phase.
